Maryland take a walk and sleep Az hours upon arrival and then go through light workout near the hotel. The latter is a departure from Iatum custom. but the team still will not work out “a hours before game time. Big Jim said Maryland would be ready now for UCLA if the latter were a Information team. but with Red Sanders the top slngle-Wing coach in the country, Tatum said the Terps still had lot OF work to do on defense. When Maryland met single wing Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl after the 1852 season, the coaching problem was different. That was the day of two-platoon football. and only the defensive team had to worry about the slngle-wing style. Now every player must be prepared. Bruins Powerful Again. In it’s 67-O rout of San Diego Navy, which proved nothing, and 32–7 triumph over Kansas, the Bruins appeared to be as good or better than the team that won the Pacific Coast Confer ence title last year, then lost a close battle to Michigan. State in the Rose Bowl game. In fact. Sanders has said this team could be better than last years, but would have to be in view of expected improvement by other Pacific Coast Confer ence teams. The loss of Paul Cameron, the ALL American tail back, and Bill Sits, wingback now with the Detroit Lions, is not being felt as much as had been expected. UCLA was able to use it’s third stringers in the last quarter of the Kansas game and one of them. Don Shinnick, 220pound fullback. was good enough to run 73 yards for the final touchdown. NOTES-Tatum noted that Kentucky completed more passes against Mississippi, the South eastern Conference favorite, last Saturday than it cid against Maryland the previous week. It was close, 18 to Is. The Wild cats lost 900 to Maryland and 28–9 to Ole Miss. Don King, who Clemson thinks is the best quarterback in the countrv, did not get into the Georgia game last Saturday, which Clemson lost, 14–7. Maryland may have a sleeper on it’s schedule in Miami according to Morris McLemore. sports editor of the Miami Daily News, who was a visitor at College Park yesterday while en- route to the World Series. The Hurricanes will know more after playing Baylor this week. Miami is building toward its 1855 start of Georgia Tech and Notre Dame in two of its first three games. Kansas had first down On UCLA’s 4-yard line on Saturday and failed to score in four plays. which gives coy,,e ;rao nf the pr,riY1S, 6afaoSc
