  Brennan 10 Find Out About Irish Saturday; Iowa Tests Sparians K : ~ NEW YORK. Sept. 2o.-It won’t take Terry Brennan. Notre Danes rookie football coach, long to ind the potential Of his suuad--jast one game. in fact. The 26-year-old Brennan, who looks like Joe College himself. sends his team against the Uni versity Of Texas Saturday. No one knows just how strong the Irish are this year, but Texas shapes up as q good test Of their strength. The Longhorns are rated one OF the top teams in the South west Conference. and they looked very good, indeed, Saturday In winning their opener from Lou lsiana State, 20–⁠6. Power Back Needed. Brennan has a rather thin squad and has commented that his main problems will be try ing to develop a power back and get some reserve strength in the line. He isn’t a prophet Of gloom as was his predecessor, Frank Leahy, so until he shows that he is joshing. he must be taken seriously. Despite the loss Of such backs as Johnny Lattner, Neil Worden and Tom McHugh and rock ribbed linemen like Art Hunter, Notre Dame was voted the top team in the country in the Associated Press preseason poll Of sports writer’s and sportscasters. After last weeks preliminary skirmishes, nearly all of which followed form, this Saturday presents the first big afternoon Of action of the season. Michigan State, the co-favorite with Illinois for the Big Ten championship, plays Iowa in the NCAAS national televiSion game Of the day. While this one should go to the Spartans on the advance dope, Iowa appears ca pable Of making it close. Sooners Play TCU. Oklahoma, perennial challenger for the national title, plays Texas Christian at Nor man. The mighty Sooners warmed up to their task by dropping California. 27-13-and | doing 1t by taking advantage of errors, one of the marks of a champion. That should spell bad news for TCU, which looked good beating Kansas, .27-6., The remaining teams voted by the experts most likely to sue coed figure to come through unscathed. Maryland, another pretender to the national throne, has an open date after hexing (See College Football, A-17)
