Until Emery connected with Byrne, the shirt-sleeved crowd of 10000 at Palmer Stadium had expectations of a Princeton upset. Lafayette, led by Jack Smith Of Wilmington, DEL, and Joe O’Leiic of Donora. Smith rocked Princeton twice in the first half with sprints of As and 56 yards. The fleet half back carried the opening kickoff from the Lafayette 8 to Prince toms 81 to set up the first touch down by OLenic. Late in the second period after Princeton had gone ahead. 1877, Smith took the kickoff on his Is and loped to the Princeton 35. but incomplete passes by George Bartlett shut off a scoring opportunity. Princeton’s lighter line appeared weak at the guards and Lafayette pounded heavily at that section throughout the game. It was this weakness that permitted Lafayette to intercept jump pass by Ray Pinch mid way in the second period and take over on Princeton’s 20. From there Smith, O’Lenic and Bryan Satterlee combined to score Lafayette’s second touch down. Satterlee went over on a quarterback sneak from. two feet out after he and his team mates moved through the cen ter of Princeton’s line on six plays. Passes Keep Tigers in Game. Princeton. despite the use of a modified platoon system was unable to do much with Lafaycites line. Passes by Royce Flippin and Emery kept Prince ton in the game and led to the Tigers two first-half touch downs. Emery intercepted a pass by Jack Smith on Princeton’s 40, and after three plays that carried to the 40, Emery fired to Earl Byrne who caught the ball on the Lafayette 18 and scampered untouched for the touchdown.
