the Generals. the players can get worked up if it’s the first game of the season. It’s easy to get a team up for the opener. Bat any time after that he’s worried when his club is a heavy favorite. Jack Hennemier. Tatum’s line coach. explained his worries. Il was running the first team on defense in practice last Thurs day, and I’ve never seen duller, sflstter team in my life” he said. Il wanted to see just how slow they were thinking, so I in structed the offensive team working against them to go into the spread. Hennemier Annoyed. “It didn’t make any differ ence,” Hennemier continued. Their minds were so far from football they didn’t even change defensive assignments when the offensive team went from the split-T to the spread. At that point I had to like Washington and Lee” 1t is no secret that the. Terp coaches were not too pleased with the So-called first team in its 18minute stay against the Cen erals. There could be some changes this week. Tatum, an x-lineman, is drooling at this point of the season over his guards. George Palahunik and Jack BoWersox are giving the backs some great blocking, and they’re excellent on defense. They have to be, because right behind them Tom McLuckie and Bob Pellegrini are playing exceptional ball but they can’t make the first club because BoWersox and Palahunik are too good. Like Ends Blocking. The Terp coaches also like the blocking of the ends. Maryland does not have the pass receivers of last year but Marty Crytzer and the sophomore ends are coming through in other depart ments. ..... Ronnie Waller was the individual star with his three haShy touchdowns. 5 but Chets Hanulak still is the starting left halfback, the coaches intimated. 1t was Waller who cost Mary land a 15-yard penalty back to its own f1ve-yard line in the Missouri, game. an unnecessary set back that set up the only touch down scored against the Terps this year. That was his first game as a junior, however, and he’s showing signs of becoming more alert. . Walters 56-yard runback of a punt was nothing new to him Ronnie scored 126 points II hign school returning punts for touch downs. Tatum Using FlatOOnS. And who misses the free sub. rule at Maryland? Those were platoons Tatum was sending in against the Generals, and the second and third clubs are look ing better. For the Generals, they made a fine effort for a quarter, but were outmanned. They were we’ll coached. even in a one-sided defeat. Joe Lindsey Is a good split T quarterback without too much help. And they missed Bill Nc Henry. their star center who was hurt early. Tommy Mont of the ‘Terps’ coaching staff picked Missouri to beat Purdue last week, after Maryland had beaten Missouri. He called last night to remind all that Missouri beat Purdue. 14–7. The chubby fellow will pick cards this week for a small fee.
