Young Players Spark Miami in $50 Rout OF Virginia Military MIAMI. Fla, Sept. 27-Led by ia red-hot crop of freshman and sophomore talent, Miami’s Hurricanes stampeded to a 45–0 victory over Virginia Military Institute in last nights football opener in the Orange Bowl. The rough, vigorous attack of the youthful Hurricanes surprised both coaches and made the 35, 500 fans forget the many stars who were lost by graduation after leading Miami to two straight New Years Day games in the Orange and Gator Bowls. A host Of fiashy running backs delighted the shirt-sleeved Orange Bowl audience as Miami sped 449 yards on ground plays and rarely used the airlanes in scoring at least once in each period. Freshmen and sophomores played leading roles all the way. Wally Piper, Dick Albrecht and Alfred Ciarrochi. all from the frosh corps got away for sparkling touchdown runs and Burt Grossman, another flrst-year man, proved a place kicking perfectionist as he booted a field goal and six straight conversions. Youngsters also dominated the defensive force which held VM1 helpless except for one outbreak | in the first period. when Bill Brehany’s passes to Jim Byron carried the Keydets to Miami’s Is before thev were stopped.
