  Texas A&M Beaten by TCU; Arkansas Defeats Texas, 1914 FAYETTEVILLE. Ark, Oct. 20 A hopped-up band of Arkansas Razorbacks today defeated Texas the Nations No. team. Is to IA for the first time in 13 years. The big, rugged lines fought each other to a standstill for most of a great defensive scrap. but the Arkansas forwards were the ones who were able to open the holes when opportunity knocked. Arkansas used a Texas tumble for it’s first touchdown. A ST. yard sustained march for a field goal and a four-play drive of sc yards for a third-quarter touch down gave it a margin it was able to hold. The underdog Razorbacks resorted to a spread formation they hadn’t used previously this year in an effort to get the jump or Texas at the outset. But that failed. and the upsetters fell back on their heretofore erratic split-I to do the biggest damage. The Arkansas defense, some thing Coach Otis Douglas borrowed from his old pro team. the Philadelphia Eagles, was so effective in the pinches that Texas made only four first downs. And so even was the game that each team netted 173 yards rush ing. Arkansas got a slight edge with its passing. a phase of at tack that was used Sparingly because of a 20-mile hour wind. Fred Williams. a senior tackle who was kicked off the team by Douglas last year for failure to attend classes. set up Arkansas first touchdown near the end of | -
