ScoutWarnsGW Against Surprise In Furman Game CoIoniuIs Cautioned By SWEET Not to Be Overconfident George Washington University’s football team will play Furman tomorrow night in Griffith Sta dium in a game which shapes up as tight contest. Last year the Colonials scored a BAT triumph over the Purple Hurricane. Tim SWEET, former assistant coach at CIV and now an insurance salesman who spends his week ends scouting for the Colo malls, came back with a cautious report after watching Furman beat The Citadel, 35–14. last week. They’ve got a different team from the one we beat last year, SWEET said. IF I were a sports writer I wouldn’t make CIV too much of favorite. We moved pretty we’ll through theil line last year. but they’ve got a defensive guard. Calvin Hartness who weighs 200 pounds and coulc wreck us. Sophomore Back a Threat. “They also have a sophomore .halfback, Russell Sutton, who is stoeky, very fast and deceptive, SWEET continued. He. was the best high school player in the State. Sutton makes you look bao when you try to tackle him and grab nothing but an armful OF fresh air. The sportswriters down there are calling him Quick silver” SWEET also had some nice things to say about Sonny Horton, the leading Furman ground gainel last year, and Gene Pedrick, quarterback, who this week is thu Southern Conferences top passer II hope Andy Davis is back tc work in the defensive backfielC for us this Friday” SWEET said We’ll need him and several more like him to slow down this Ped rick” Word from Greenville. S. c., is that Furman is in its best physical condition of the year. Two ends who missed last weeks game are ready now and several others who were ailing are back. Furman Coach Cautious. Coach Bill Young of Furmar naturally is cautious about his teams chances this week. Sure We looked great against The Cita. DEL” he admitted. Everything we did was right and we didn’t tumble once. But we’ll have tt play our best ball to have any chance against those Colonials Any team that can lead Wake Forest for close to three periods is not exactly weak” His scout at the GW-Wake For est was Jim Meade. the schools athletic director who used to play with the Redskins and was an as tsistant coach at Maryland before going to Furman. Among other good things he reported about CIV is that this scatback, Bino Bar reira, had a great day. as ne did down in Greenville last year. Let Is hope We can stop him”
