BEHIND HOME PLATE through the last quarter, but costly penalties, particularly one of Is yards for clipping after Long had intercepted a City College pass and raced all the way to Baltimore’s 9 yard line, ruined their chances of taking the lead again. The Hubs final game of the season will be played at the municipal sta dunn on Thanksgiving afternoon, so let’s all turn out and show our approbation of this scrapping team, which, under the fine coaching of Mel Henry and his staff, has played a fine brand of football all season. North Cardinals jinx over the Maryland Terrapins continues, al though Jim Tatum’s boys came mighty close to breaking a 9-game losing streak against the Tar Heels on Saturday when, on rain-soaked field and in freezing weather, the game ended in TT tie. The other Maryland team-Navy was showed under by powerful Tulane team by a score of 27–0 and the Naval Academy boys were new er in the picture at any part of the game. On the record, of course, it looks as if Navy will really be slaughtered by the Army juggernaut, but all records are generally thrown out the window when these two service teams meet and you can look for an inspired Navy team to give good account of themselves in their big game of the year. ##% In the professional games on Sun day, the hapless Washington Red skins were showed under by the Philadelphia Eagles by score OF $50 and the only thing the Wash ington fans had to cheer about was 59-yard punt return by Charlie Justice. Engaging across the field he eluded all but one Eagle player halfback Ledbetter-who pulled him down on the Eaglas Al yard line and that’s about as close as the Red skins came to scoring. The Cleveland Browns won over San Francisco, “a to IA, to maintain their lead in the American division and the New York Giants poured i on the Chicago Cards to the tune o. 81 to 81, to keep their second-p1act tie with the Eagles. In the National division the Lo’ Angeles Rams took over the leac when they beat the Green Bay Pack ers As to IA, while the Chicago Bears edged out the New York Yankees q to 20, to put the two teams in The tie for second place.
