76-Yard Scoring Run Seals Illinois 14–6 Win Over UCLA LOS ANGELES, Oct. 14-Fullback Dick Raklovits of Illinois needed only one yard for a first down, but he took 76 and scored touchdown. This spectacular scoring jaunt proved the decisive blow against the University of California at Los Angeles last night. The final score was IA to 6. Today, the happy Illini fly home to play an other Pacific Coast Conference foe. Washington, next Saturday. Associated with the charging Raklovits footballer were several outstanding Illini, chiefly Left End Tony Klimek, who not only scored the first touchdown on a pass, but also was a terror on defense throughout the game. Passes Get First Score. The touchdown pass to Klimek was tossed by Fred Major, jr., quarterback, just a moment after the same combination executed a 52-yard aerial that set up the scoring play. Sam Rebecca converted for the seventh point. Illinois clung to the thin lead going into the third period and just when UCLA appeared ready to begin a serious counterattack. Raklovits exploded through the line and was off for six more points. Again Rebecca converted. UCLA then began dominating the game and after three heart breaking pass interceptions deep in Illini territory and another drive that flzzled 6 inches from the goal, they hit for six points. Two subs, Tailback Johnny Flor ence and End Ernie Stockert, completed a pass for 8 yards and the score. The try for point missed fire. Illinois played it safe in the last half. 1t didn’t try to pass and made only one first down on Raklovits’ run. But an alert pass defense and stout line, plus speed, held off further scoring. Alabama Routs Furman. The UCLA- Illinois. clash topped a Friday night program which saw Alabama crush Furman, 34–6; George Washington trample Virginia Tech. 42–7; Utah and Dem yer tie at 14–14: Fordham smash Boston College. 26–6; st. Bona venture upset Boston University, 1921, and Marquette trim Detroit. 27–14. st. Bonaventure’ victory came in the last 20 seconds of play on Ted Marchibroda’s 25-yard for ward pass to Stan Zjadel in the end zone. Detroit held a TO first-quarter lead over Marquette, but then Detroit’s Jack O’Leary made three second-period fumbles and they led to as many Marquette touch downs. That was enough.
