Columbia Lions Beat Harvard, Running Jordan S Ivy Debut CAMBRIDGE, Mass, Oct. T. The Columbia Lions ruined Lloyd Jordan’s Ivy League coaching debut by defeating Harvard, 28–7. today before a $4,000 crowd that was barely noticeable in the sta dium. HOWE Hansen dashed the Crimson’s hopes by scoring twice in the second period, ending SO and a. yard drives with 2-yard and 1-foot plunges into the Harward end zone. Then the Lions needed less than three minutes and only five plays to score their third touchdown after taking the second half’s kickoff. That counter was provided by Vern Wynott on an end sweep from the 3-yard line after Wynott and Hansen had ripped outside the Harvard tackles for considerable yardage. After Mitch Price, hailed as the sophomore counterpart OF Columbia’s famed Sid Luckman, tossed 65-yard overall scoring pass to End Wesley Bomm. Coach Lou Little appeared content with his margin which included four straight conversions by Al Ward. Little then gave his second string defensive unit chance to operate and it was unable to hold off Jordan’s beaten but still determined forces. Late in the third period. Car roll Lowenstein managed to get his passes clicking and Harvard started rolling. Early in the final period, Johnny West, Phil 1senberg and Dave Warden ripped CO. lumbia’s defensive spares to shreds before the latter stiffened and held for downs on its Is. Harvard’s disappointment over the rude ending of 65-yard drive, however, was turned into joy when Dick Heidtmann recovcred a tumble on Columbia’s 20. From there, Harvard clicked of two passes to the Lions four from where West scored to save his hapless forces from the humiliaton of a shutout.
