CALIFORNIA TO GO INTO ROSE BOWL SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 21.-tR- Coast Conference football saluted California as it’s champion and Rose Bowl representative today. Jubilant California supporters meanwhile, continued to celebrate the Bears 33–14 victory Saturday over Stanford, the game that pui them into the country’s post season classic at Pasadena for the second time in succession. Ths formal notification from the Conference Commissioners office was expected mcynentarily. Californ- ia earned the bid by seven league wins and neither defeat nor tie. This California squad is regard ed as stronger than last years which lost to Northwestern, 20-l4, in the Rose Bowl. Its hne charges harder and the backfield is more explosive. Ohio Is Slated It was the concensuS out this way today that Ohio State, expected to represent the Big Ten as the other half of the Rose Bowl clash Jan 2, would have to show more than it did last Saturday. The Buckeyes tied Michigan TT. Earlier in the season Ohio State played a 13-l3 deadlock with Southern California, the latter subsequently, beaten by California 16–10. Since it won from use. however, California has shown increasing improvement. It may be one of the hardest hitting tsams in the coun- try today. The bulky mentor achieved his great est triumph with a club that many thought would finish no better than fourth this season. While California was clinching the Rose Bowl invitation, the con- ference schedule was being con- cluded on other fronts also. Washington, after earlier defeats and disappointments, finished up in fine fashion with a 34–21 vic- tory ever Washington State. Wash ington overcame seven point lead by scoring two touchdowns in the opening quarter: built up a 27–7 margin ia the third quarter and held off the fighting WSC Cougars to the end. Oregon Defeated Oregon State, another slow start CT, racked up successful season for new Coach Kip Taylor by de- feating favored Oregon, 20–10. Ore gon scored a field goal to lead 80 at the half. Preseason favorite Southern Cal ifornia concluded an unsatisfactory conference schedule by defeating the University of California at Los Angeles 21–7. The Trojans had to come from behind but accomplished the feat convincingly with two touchdowns in the final quarter. The teams were tied 7–7 with four minutes to go.
