Minnesota Travels BY Land and Air 10 Whip Nebraska, %-6 LINCOLN, Neb., Oct. 1.-Striking through the air in the first halt and by ground in the second, Minnesota’s big football team whipped Nebraska, % to 6, today. The crowd of $1,000 saw Ne braska shackle the vaunted Min nesota ground attack in the first half. Even the Minnesota fans praised the work of the Nebraska forwards. But Nebraska fell victim to the Minnesota air attack engineered by Billy Bye and trailed at the half, IA to o. At the start of the third quarter, it was Nebraska’s Fran Nagle who took over the aerial spotlight, passing Nebraska to a quick score, Ralph Damkroger receiving. But Minnesota line ace, Leo Nomellini, blocked the try for point and Nebraska still needed. more than a touchdown to get even. Before the quarter ended, Ne braska had been hit for two Min nesota scores and the game was in the Gopher bag. Bye’s first-half pitches for Min nesota touchdowns went to end Gordon Soltau for a 29-yard over all gain, and then to substitute back Dale Warner for IL yards. The Bye Warner touchdown toss followed a 29-yard run by Bye on a fake pass. Soltau kicked both the points, plus the two in the third quarter. After Nagle had staged his brilliant pass assault against Min nesota-he threw for 43 yards in an 80-yard march-the Gophers turned on their power to sew up the game. It was Dave Skrien’s show. The smashing fullback bulled, 20 yards for one scoring run on which he literally ran over tackle Dick Goeglein of Nebraska. Then after a short Nebraska punt into the wind, Skrien Travelled 81 yards in three smashes for the final score Of the day. NEBRASKA ----------- Q o o
