22d Straight Lost | By Kansas State | In Close Battle MANHATTAN, Kans., Nov. Is. Gerald Hackney, a bone-crushing fullback, and pint-sized Dana Atkins came within 6 yards OF powering Kansas State to the football upset of the year today. But the Wildcats couldn’t quite make it, losing 20 to IA to Kansas University for their 22d straight Big Seven Conference defeat. Kansas was favored to win by just about any score it cared to, but a record crowd of $4,000 was shocked and frenzied over the proceedings. Even in losing Kan sas State came up with the most sparkling play of the day in the third period when Hackney, 2o7pound sophomore, ran 96 yards to score. Atkins, 155-pound quarter back, played a stellar game.
