Army Crushes Stanford; Michigan Routs Navy Wolverines Triumph, IS 10 0, as Middies Lose 12th Straight Michigan’s prize sophomore, tall Chuck Ortmann, passed and ran the Wolverines to their 2lst straight football triumph today, an easy $50 win over undermined Navy, which now has lost – games in a row. Ortmann, all-round Milwaukee product who stepped into the shoes OF the graduated All-American Bob Chappuis, staged one of his finest performances before the third straight sellout throng of 1898 fans IN Michigan Stadium. He connected on one 48-yard touchdown pass to Michigan’s brilliant End Dick Rifenburg, plunged across for another Wolverine score and stood out as the best running back on the field. Navy, blanked for the first time in seven games this year, couldn’t mobilize anything in the way of sustained attack. The Middies made only eight first downs to Mich igan’s % and never penetrated any deeper than the Michigan 3S. Michigan, using a total of 43 players, scored in every period after parading Al yards for a touchdown the first time the Wolverines got the ball. Michigan Piles up Score. Ortmann smashed over for that one and Fullback Tom Peterson sliced 10 yards off tackle for a Sec ond period score, Gaping a 7S-yard parade. Michigan scored twice IN the third, on a one-yard buck by Halfback Walt Teninga and on an 18-yard pass from former Navy back Bob Van Summern to Rifenburg, who caught the ball in the end zone, stepped out of bounds and fumbled. But officials ruled he had possession of the ball before he crossed the sideline. Rifenburg then caught Ortmann’s arching 48-yard pitch early in the fourth period for his seventh touch down in seven games. Harry Allis, Michigan’s steady place-kicker, converted all five extra points to run his season record to % conversions in rs attempts. Michigan smashed for 231 yards on the ground and lis more by air in its most decisive victory since the Wolverines smothered Purdue, 40 to 0, in their Big Nine opener. Ortmann personally accounted for 1872 yards of Michigans gains, 90 of it on four pass competitions in IL efforts. He gained 83 yards running, but was thrown for Al yards in losses fading to pass and finished with a rushing net of ~ yards. Hawkins Leads Navy Attacks. His soph running mate at half back gained 66 yards in 10 rushes and Peterson peeled of 78 yards in IT attempts.
