PITTSBURGH, Pa, Nov. g. Baked in the air and fought on fairly even terms on the ground Holy Cross reached in the bag for a third quarter field goal and 16- 13 victory over Duquesne at Forbes Field today. A slim crowd of 1853 that houted threatening skies was repaid by the Dukes unexpected strength. Duquesne wasted little time in the first quarter, setting the Crusaders behind TO. The Fasteners came back near the end of the same pc riod with seven points of their own In the second. the picture was reversed with Holy Cross scoring first and Duquesne second. The third quarter field goal by Vito Kissell near the end of tie period, ended the scoring and the game settled into an inconclusive see-saw. Holy Cross found the Dukes sharp on the defense against second half passes The Crusaders passing quarterback, Walt Brennan, was stopped in the last half. But his three passes to end Jim Dieckelman brought the first quarter score, and his heave into the end zone resulted in second period touchdown. Fullback Ralph Longmore scored first for Duquesne after he sliced through right tackle and raced AZ yards for a score. After taking the ball on its own 16-yard line, Holy Cross scored in short order on the Brenpan-Dieckelman aerial eombination. In the second period Brennan climaxed an 80-yard drive by pitch ing another touchdown pass. this time from his 36-yard line to Half back Joe Byers In the end zone Duquesnes six points came on a pass from Len Kubiak to Lee Squires. That heave went from the 21-yard line to the end zone. Holy Cross plunged to the Duke 15-yard line in the third period Stopped there, Kissell booted a field goal with two minutes to play, and put Holy Cross back in the lead. = HOLY CROSS Left end-Dieckelman.
