THE Tigers Columbia Team the Winner by a Score Of 6 to 5. A Lucky Play by Roper Saves Princeton From Being Blanked- Scores a Touchdown But Goal is Lost ON a Technicality-Cnptni Pelps Defensive Tactics Weak. NEW YORK, Nov. 6.-Columbla’s foot ball eleven, after one of the hardest bat ties of the season, vanquished the Prince ton Tigers at Columbia Field this after noon by score of to 3, in the presence of one Of the biggest crowds seen here in years. But for lucky play on the part of Roper. the Princeton end, in the second half the Tigers would have been BANKED. Roper grabbed the bali out OF the hands Of Fullback Berrien as the latter was tackled in midfield. and. with scarcely any oppositon, he ran to the Blue and White goal line for touchdown, When the ball was brought out for goal trial it was placed on the ground before Mills was ready to Kick it. and. because of that, Princeton lost point. Toward the close of the second half Columbia showed better stamina and recuperative powers; for. when the game ended in the twilight, Sanford’s men were engaged in final desperate assault upon Princeton’s line and were making plenty of ground. Columbia scored a touchdown in the first half after twenty minutes of fierce foot ball. There was no fuke about it. The back field worked with beautiful precision, the Interference was good. and the gains were made chiefly at the tackles and the ends. Most of Columbia’s largest gains were made through Captain Pell who was a mark all the way through and who played a weak defence.

The interference OF both teams was good. Roper, Princeton. furnished the sensation of the game. In scrimmage he got the ball from Bcrrien. on a tumble and made a run OF forty-five yards for touchdown, planting the ball souarely behind the goal posts. In the try at goal. however. Roper. who held the ball for Mills, touched IL down prematurely and the Columbia men rushed on and stop ned the place kick. thus depriving Prince ron of the possibility of goal. though this technicality seldom has been taken advantage OF. Great crowds of people packed the grand stands the viaduct which covered the field and the hills to the west.
