oUTPLAYED BY CORNELL. Princeton’s Eleven Beaten Badly on the Home Grounds. PRINCETON, n. j.. Nov. 3.-For the first time in Princeton’s football history the eleven Of the Orange and Black was defeated on its home grounds this after noon Cornell Is the team that did the trick. This is the second time. however. that the New Workers. have landed a victory over the Tigers. for last season they won out at Ithaca by the score of . to 0. and therefore the pill which was made today is doubly hard for the local players to swallow. Princeton’s “rooters’ were confident OF winning. Although the men from the New Jersey college were Offering odds OF 2 to l on their men. after the first half. when Cornell was credited with II points. Princeton men tried TO bet their money, so great was their confidence in the ability of the Tigers to win. The Tigers were beaten so decidedly and outplayed so COM p,etely that no one hesitates t. say that Cornell won strictly on her merits. During the entire contest Il constant tIrizzle kept up and was accompanied by brisk north wind which sent the cold ihivers up and down the backs OF the 4 coo people who bIaycd the storm. When il became evident that the field would hr wet and slippery Princeton men were wont to regard the fact as favorable to their chances. for the Tigers linemen, on the average. outweghed the visitors by eight pounds. Nevertheless. Cornell played all around Princeton on the defence, for they held the Tigers at least six times for downs, while Princeton was only able TO take the ball once in this way. CorneIIs attack was far superior and was admirably adapted to the condition which prevailed. A modification Of the guards back style of play was the thing when raised havoc with Princeton’s forwards. One guard was called back and showed against the centre. Ii was regular push play and sent the Princeton men sliding before it in the mud for gain almost every time. The Ithacans also had several trick plays up their sleeves, which they brought to light at opportune periods. In the first half Princeton stuck closely to the end runs. but the interference was slow in getting under way and was easily broken by Cornell ends. Three times in the second half Princeton had good chance to score; in fact, the play was III Cornell’s territory nearly all the time, but almost constant fumblings spoiled the OPP portunities. The Princeton team in the first half was almost totally devoid of life and snap In the latter part of the half the play was carried into princeton’s ter ritory and Starbuck tried a place kick on full catch but failed to score. Time was called with the ball in Prince tons territory and nearly all the Tigers left the field crying. and the cheering of the men after the game was one of the best exhibitions of Princeton’s loyalty ever seen here.

PRINCETON DEFEATED. Cornell Won on the Tigers Own Grounds by u Score of IL to o. PRINCETON, n. j., Nov. 3.-The Prince ton football team went down TO defeat before the Cornell eleven on University Field this afternoon by score of II to o. The Tigers defeat was a crushing one, in that they expected to win from the Ithacans without much trouble. This is the second time that Princeton has been whipped by Cornell in two years, and is the first time that the black and orange has ever been beaten on the home grounds. They felt their defeat keenly. yet, as the broken hearted players dragged themselves from the field, the student body stood up and cheered the team just as Justify as though Ii were Cornell that had been vanquished. In skill and in prowess the white and car nelian players seemed to be superior the black and orange-striped warriors. Cornell worked the double pass in excellent style, both of her touchdowns resulting directly from this sort of strategy. Tine and time again they worked it, and with only a few exceptions the play gained ground. During the entire game a heavy, chilly rain fell which had much to do with the playing of both teams. The Cornell men seemed to be veritable mud horses. while the Tigers appeared to be greatly bothered bv the siippey field The gridiron was studded with small pools OF water, and all the players were wet to the skin. The disagreable weather had its effect on the crowd about 5000 persons seeing the game. notwithstanding the rain, however the crowd was a merry one, and the followers OF each side kept up a constant yelling as good plays were made by their favorites. The Cornell sympathizers almost went wild with frenzy when their team scored its first touchdown three minutes after play started. The Princeton followers. however. did not lose heart, but doggedly kept encouraging the niud-bespattered men that represented Princeton Three times was Princeton within striking distance of the Cornell goal. but the Tigers could not rise to the occasion.
