Score Three Touchdowns In Last Half To Capture 18 To 6 Triumph Ell PASO, Tex, Jan. 1.-PH The Cincinnati University Bearcats swept to three last half touch downs Wednesday to defeat Vir- GINA Tech 18 to 6 in the Sun Bowls 18th annual football game. A crowd of 10, 900 braved cloudy skies and below-frezing weather to see Cincinnati outplay the VPI Cob blers in every department as the Bearcats rushed over a touchdown In the first three minutes of the period, another before the quarter was II minutes old and a clincher near the end of the game. Taking to the air when their ground attack was stopped, the Gobblers bounced back after the second Cincinnati marker to score early in the final period. Halfback r odger Stephens. Waterloo, Ia, speedster, and full back AL Sabato c~ollaborated for the Bearcats to march back 90 yards with the second half kickoff. After a series of penalties, halfback Hal johnson of Erlanger, KY, went over from the 12-yard stripe. Virginia Tech was held for downs following the next kickoff. Again Cincinnati pounded goal ward, with Stephens, Johnson and Sabato covering 80 yards in II plays. Sabato charged across the goal in a fourth-down crack at the line. Halfbacks Ray Beasley of Rich mond, Va, and Ralph Beard of Cumberland, Md, powered the Gobbiers’ surprise attack through the air as the third quarter ended. After returning the kickoff 20 yards, Beasley threw successive passes to Beard good for 26 and Is yards. But the drive stalled as the Bearcat line smacked down three consecutive aerials, and Johnson intercepted tailback Harry Wal tons goal over the goal. Cincin- MATHS short punt out to the 40 gave the Virginians another chance, and Beard and Beasley alternated for short gains with Beard plunging over from the two. A final 44-yard march, powered by fullback Don Mcmillan and Stephens. Mcmillan capped it by breaking through to score from the five.
