  Nofre Dame, Georgia, |U.C. LA. Supporters Claiming U. 5. Title NEW YORK, Dec. 2.-Boosters Of Notre Dame, Georgia and U. C. L. A. are claiming the college grid title today on the basis of Army’s close call with Navy in the final prebowl roundup of the 1916 season. Georgia and U. C. L. A. rank at the top of the IA unbeaten, united elevens in the Nation on the strength of their major schedules, but the Irish from South Bend. who wound up defeatless campaign by trouncing Southern California, 26–⁠6. have valid claim through their 90 tie with the Cadets. Army still could point 10 shiny record of 27 victories and only one tie over three-year span, although they were within a couple Of strides of shocking defeat by the inspired Middies Saturday at Philadelphia. Army won 21–⁠18. Charley Trippi put on show, designed to strengthen his bid for an All-America rating, by scoring three touchdowns and passing for a fourth in Georgia’s 35–⁠7 romp over Georgia Tech. Shortly after the game, the Bulldogs were invited to oppose North Carolina, 49-l4 vic tors over Virginia, in the Sugar Bowl at New Orleans. The u. @. l.. A. Bruins warmed up for their Rose Bowl date with Illinois by downing Nebraska under wraps” 1870, with Illini scouts in the stands. Running up 433 yards. the Bruins boosted their season scoring total to 313 points. Although scattered games involving at least one conference title, the Big Seven, remain to be played, most of the teams finished their seasons Saturday.
