CLEMSON MACHINE DEFEATS TULANE NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 17-W.R)- Clemson’s smooth-running football machine bested Tulane’s spotty play by a 47–2O margin today before $1,000. At times Clemson baffled Tulane defenses. But no matter what their strategy, the boys from South Carolina were always in complete command of the situation. Those three Tulane touchdowns were so spaced that the only time Tulane even came close to match ing the Caroliniians was early IN the second period when the score was knotted at 7 to Z. Twice dur ing the game Clemson came up with perfect plays. Once they pulled a double reverse, with end Chip Clark scooting untouched II yards for touch down while Tulane players stood MISUNDERSTANDING for the ball carrier. That was in the second period. Then, in the third, Marion But Ter faxed a quick kick, faxed hand ing the ball. away on Statue OF Liberty variation and then tossed 81 yard touchdown pass to Clark. Of the other Clemson touchdowns, three were scored by halfback Bill ly Poe. He bucked the line for four yards after a blocked kick; he dashed IS yards on a fake punt and he swept the end for eight yards after tulane fumbled on its 81. Tulane scored on a nine yard pass after Dick Hoot’s 81 yard run; on quarterback sneak after a AZ yard march; and on a yard pass. Tulane fans moaned when they thought of next weeks opponent; Notre Dame.
