NEW HAVEN, Conn, Nov. 10.-A Brown football team that hardly anybody figured had even a plea yune chance to lick Yale rallied today after a poor start to outplay the Blue completely, 20–7. in the golden anniversary fracas between these Ivy League rivals as $1,000 looked on in bewilderment. The Bruins, playing hard, smart football. were by far the better team this afternoon as they thwarted highly favored Yale’s bid to become the Nations first winner of 500 intercollegiate football contests. The Blue was in the running during rough opening period and part of the second. After that 1t was mainly Brown. Aided by his highly reputed line, Art Dakos, on a quarterback sneak, Tailed from the half-foot mark for Yale’s only touchdown shortly after the second quarter opened. Val Wilkie added the extra point, and it looked as though the Bulldogs rout was on to everybody but the Bruins. EXPERTS STUNNED BY MIDDLE SCORE NEW YORK, Nov. 11-R)-Sur’ prises popped all over the nation college gridirons Saturday, bur perhaps the most significant devel. opment was Navy’s unexpected crushing of Michigan. Regarded as fortunate to escape defeat at the hands Of Pennsyi. vania and Notre Dame, many thought little of the Middies’ chances. Instead, the Annapolis aggregation overwhelmed Michi. ganb y a larger score than Army S great team had dunked the VOL verines earlier in the seasons: to 7 compared to 28 to Z. The .Middies’ feat pointed ur more than ever the coming Dec. H. Army–Navy tangle and over shadowed the Army’s 4s-0 rout o1 Notre Dame for the second straight year and the startling up sets scored by Mississippi State over Louisiana State, 27–20; Ore gon State over Washington, 7–6; Brown over Yale, 20–7; Utah over New Mexico, 21–20; and Texas Tech over Texas Christian, 12–0. Also put into the shade by Nays performance was Indiana’s 49-C trampling of Minnesota, the worst defeat in Gopher history; Penn sylvania’s decisive 1927 triumph over previously. unbeaten, united Columbia and Penn States equally decisive 27–0 walloping of Temple that also chopped the Owls off the select list. Ohio State squeaked by Pitt, IA. o; Oklahoma and Northwestern had to put on last period touch downs to beat Iowa State, 14–7, and Wisconsin, 28–14, respectively. The Oklahoma Aggies, unbeaten and united, and Texas likewise had their hands full against Tulsa, T. 6, and Baylor, 21–14, while South. ern California bounced back from | its St. Mary’s defeat to whip Cali. fornia, 14–0, and Washington State upset Oregon, 20–13. Individual stars were numerous. Skippy Minisi, who caught the game-winning touchdown against Penn in the last Is seconds and who saved the Middies from de. feat against Notre Dame with . nifty last minute tackle, again sparked Navy by passing for one touchdown and scoring another. After Columbia took 10 lead, Penn’s Bob Evans threw four touchdown passes to crush the Lions. Bob Fenimore lateraled for one touchdown and passed for an. other for the Oklahoma Aggies’ triumph over Tulsa, while Stan Mcguire, substitute end for Oregon State, booted the extra point that virtually squashed Washington S Rose Bowl hopes. Indiana’s George Taliaferro scored three touch. downs as the Hoosiers humiliated Minnesota while Billy Howard in tercepted a LSU aerial and ran for Mississippi States winning score with the count tied at 1920 in the last quarter.
