BALTIM E, Dec. 2.-The story of Army’s 23–7 victory over Navy today is the story of the deadly ballhawking that has been the Cadets forte all season, brilliant performances by a pair of plebes, Glenn Davis and Felix Blanchard, and a line that was hardly reckoned in class with the Middies’ great forward wall. Five times the future generals stepped in to stop Navy threats with pass interceptions to run their total for the season to IS. Two of them led to Army touch downs and both were made with in five yards of the same spot. Herschel Fuson. sub center, grabbed one of Hal Hamberg’s aerials on the 25-yard line in the second period. From there the Cadets drove deep into Navy ter ritory and, although they failed to score, they put the Middies in such a hole that they were unable to stop the next Army drive. Davis picked Bob jenkins pass out of the air on Army’s 80 in the final quarter and from there the Cadets marched 10 yards. for their second tally. In between and afterwards, Blanchard, Hank Foldberg and Arnold Tucker in tercepted three other aerials. Davis and Blanchard were the individual stars, although little Hamberg put on a great display in Navy’s touchdown drive. The two Army plebes gained all except two yards of the 10 yards covered by the Cadets in the drive for their second touchdown. Davis went so yards for the final tally and both were instrumental in setting the stage for Dale Halls 24-yard scoring play in the second period. Except in the first period and the third, when penalties and Navy’s forward wall pushed the cadets back nearly 40 yards, the Army’s front line had the better Of the argument all day. It rushed Navy’s passers all over the place and q break-through by Arch Arnold and Joe stanowicz

Army Power Beats NAVY Blanchard, Davis Games Stars CONTINUED from First Sport Page) sideline to score in the corner of the field. jenkins threw a desperate block at him on the 2-yard line, trying TO blast him out Of bounds, but nobody was stopping Davis-or Army-today. One minute later Army had a touchdown. Davis, with his blind ing speed, streaked right over the place where Whitmire had stood and went 20 yards for a first down to Nays “a. On the very next play Dale Hall broke like a bullet through the other side of the suddenly limp Navy line and galloped and zigged his way through Nays backfield for the touchdown. Just like that. Walterhouse loped in, kicked the extra point right between the posts, his 45th conversion in 81 tries this year, the As extra points being a new NCAA record. Though Walterhouse is used only at these brief and exciting moments he has scored more points this year than has any Navy ball runner. Navy suffered a tough break at the very start of the game, after Clyde Scott, the boy from old Smaekover. Ark, had brought back Blanchard opening kickoff 81 yards from the goal line Nays Bob jenkins then took the ball the next three times. On the third play he was hit very hard by Army tacklers and knocked so groggy that he would have fallen on his face if he had not been helped off the field. The injury removed Nays principal threat with the ball. At that the TarS from Annapoils gave the big crowd its first real chance TO yell with the games first pass -Hamberg TO Bramlett-a fine stand by the Navy line with its back against the 15-yard line midway in the second quarter Also al the very end of the opening half Hamberg missed a long touchdown pass to Hanson

ARMY BEATS NAVY FOR FIRST TIME IN PAST FIVE YEARS BALTIMORE, Dec. Army’s great eleven turned on speed and power Saturday to defeat Navy, 23 to T, and complete an undefeated season. The game was played before l a crowd of 10000, including top ranking generals and admirals, in freezing weather and an icy wind. Dale Halls 24-yard sprint to a touchdown eliminating in 65-yard drive in four minutes of play in the second period gave Army ‘ to 0 lead at half time. This victory ended the Middies’ five-year domination of the classic and gave West Point the top foot ball rating of the year in National Collegiate standings. The Army came back to put the game safely beyond reach in the final minutes, after the Middies threatened to make a battle of it in the third quarter Army added two more points at the start of the third when John Hansen’s punt was blocked Hansen barely man aged to recover the ball in the end zone. Hal Hamberg, Navy, passed and ran and Navy was in a striking position. Clyde Scott plunged over for touchdown but before the end of the third quarter, Navy roared back in another drive in Army territory, but Glenn Davis, Army’s top scorer, broke it up. Felix Blanchard poured down to- ward pay-dirt almost single han dedly, and plunged over for a score The crowd was hardly back in their seats before Davis took a lateral from Tom Lombardo and waltzed 50 yards through the side lines to touchdown. Wick Walter house converted, after each touch down, to bring the total of such points for himself to AT for the season, a new collegiate record.
