NElTnEn SIDE SCORES. Yale Holds Harvard to a Tie Game This Afternoon Yale Holds Harvard to Tie Game This Afternoon. Cambridge, Mass, Nov. 1S.-A great crowd this afternoon is witnessing the foot ball game between Yale and Harward. The weather is cool and bracing Harvard is the fayorite in the betting. Two years ago Harvard and Yale met on Soldiers Field and played tie game, neither side scoring. When the two elevens lined up today the conditions in several respects will resemble those which prevailed before that game of 1897 Harvard had been classed as easily the first eleven of the season, and is. even more favorite now than 1t was then. The Yale eleven in 1897, UP to the time of the game with the Chicago Athletic Association, was regarded as practically out of the run ming. With this match, however, came a reversal of form, just as happened in the Pennsylvania State College game this year, and the Yale eleven COM menced to take on satisfactory shape and really seemed likely to get to- Eether. Harvard’s team Is decidedly far superior to Yale’s. but 1t was supposed to be that two years ago, when the indiyidual brilliancy and dash of the play ing OF Chadwick, Chamberlain and 9TH ers did much to break up Harvard s formations and make the game q tie. 1t resolves itself into simple PROPOSE tion = namely: If Yale takes no chances, but simply plays a careful, safe game. and Harvard does the same, and each team put up exactly its average game the Cambridge men will win and with ease. The two teams are far different in their general style, and in some respects Harvard has taken on the Yale feature OF several years ago. The Cambridge men rely upon steady pres sure and forcing of the play up into the center when on the defense. When on the offense, it is true. they adapt the play to the individual, but make 1t most decidedly a team play. With a fast. clever half in the makeup, they swing him out around the end behind good interference. When they have in their heavy line bucker Ellis, they launch him toward the middle Of the line with plenty Of push behind him to crowd him over IL he gets hung up. The lineup will be: Yale. Harvard.
