STIFF COMPETITION Our Notre Dame eleven looked CARLY well at times, yet there is an awful lot of work to do between now and next Saturday if we hope 10 defeat Indiana. The sunny side of our showing was the work OF the converted players. Wally z e m b a. Dippy Evans, Harry Wright, Bernie Crimmins and Bill Farley. All of these boys. playing new positions, turned in good performances. The showing of Angelo Bertelli. stringbean sophomore left halfback from Springfield, Mass, was a source of satisfaction 10 the coaching staff. Arizona offered stiff competition IN the first half, but weakened in the third and fourth quarters. The hot weather in Tuscon during the past few weeks prevented Mike Casteels boys from getting into top physical condition. Minnesota, combining great line win fine set of backs headed by Bruce Smith, proved a little too tough for the Washing ton Huskies. II is awfully hard to lick a team which has powerful line. 1t looks like another super great Gopher squad this season. Our hat is off 10 Coach Red Dawson Tulane. Too much credit cannot be given him for his feat in fielding a team which could defeat the Boston College squad. Despite the 21–7 score. B C., in our book, is still great football machine. HAS PLENTY OF STRENGTH 1t looks as if Michigan will be almost on par with Minnesota again this season. Coach Crisler may even have a better balanced team this year than in 1910. Nat urally, coach Is bound TO miss the services of All-America Tom Harmon. Yet any team that can roll over Michigan State, three touchdowns TO one. must have plenty of offensive and defensive strength. When Coach Gus Dorais of the University of Detroit makes up his mind to win a certain football game, he generally gets the job done. When he is extremely anxious 10 score a victory that is the way the game generally turns out. Detroit must have a top fight club, both extensively and Extensively. II takes a great team TO score Ia points against Indiana and il demands a fine defense to hold a boy like Hillenbrand. IN doubtededly Indiana will be in a bad mood next Saturday afternoon. We hope that we can do as well as Detroit did against the HoosierS.
