Smith s82-Yard Run For Illinois Beats Wisconsin, 10 Trapped as He Attempts To Poss, Little Back Twists Way to Goal CHAMPAIGN, ILL.,, Nov. ia scrappy little back named Jimmy Smith refused to be cornered today and the way he fought his way out of hole produced sensational 81 yard touchdown run and a 7-to-0 victory for Illinois over the Wisconsin Badgers before $4,000 spectators at Memorial Stadium. The lone scoring play came with startling suddenness, Illinois being in possession at its own Is after taking a punt. On the first play Smith faded back to pass. Unable to find receiver he ran toward the side lines There he apparently was trapped by four Badgers, but with brilliant exhibition of twisting lodging and sidestepping. he broke away into the open and then outran every one on the field, crossing the goal line IS yards ahead of his closest pursuer. Mel Brewer place kicked the extra point. Wisconsin made a game fight to get back into the game through the remainder of the contest. The Badger attack, with George Paskvan and Bill Schmitz ripping of consistent runs, piled up huge yardage but penalties or stubborn Illinois line always checked the Badger threat when it became serious.
