Faint Terp Hope Of Upset Seen In Air Play Hoyos in Great Trim For College Park Fray Tomorrow With the consoling knowledge it has rolled its quota of snake-eyes for the season, Maryland’s havoc haunted football team is poised to gamble from the outset tomorrow in its annual collision with George town, fondly hoping the accurate passes of Quarterback Charley Weidinger will yield dividends. Undefeated Georgetown, invading College Park prohibitive favorite to complete the first unblemished record in Hoya gridiron history. will have weight, manpoWer and speed in its favor. Maryland, having suffered the ignominy of six defeats in seven games. will look to luck mostly in its slim hope of registering perhaps one of the most coveted upSets in Terp annals. Handling the dice will be the clever Weidinger, hub of Marylands S hitherto anemic attack and conceded to be one of the finest passers developed in this sector in several seasons. The 176-pound Baltimore boy has the dismal outlook of directing his team against a sturdy line which hasn’t allowed touch down, Terp Stars Only to See Game. Jim Meade, all-Southern halfback, and Pershing Mondorff. who won two games last year with field goals, will view the attraction from Mary lands bench. Meade’s fractured ankle has stripped the Terps of their most effective running back, while an appendectomy has eliminated the possibility of Mondorf becoming a threat. Nick Budkoff. Maryland end, doubtless will see only limited service due to leg injury and Francis Beamer. local lad who employed Roosevelt High as a football incubator, is expected to be the chief target of Weidinger’s aerials Beamer played the best game of his brief career last week as Maryland bowed to Florida and the Hoyas have him marked for special consideration. Georgetown. however. apparently has superior talent and more of it. It’s Joe Mellendeck is the best all around back of the year in this area. a speedy, shifty runner, lengthy punter and dangerous passer. Myron Darmohray, Charles Wychunas and Lou Ghecas otherwise give Coach Jack Hagerty a wealth of backfield material from which to draw. Hoyas Good in Line. The Hoyas also have strength in the line While Maryland has had its difficulties patching one capable eleven and sending it on the field, Georgetown is two and three deep, with fast, dependable men in every position. Missing from the Georgetown forward wall will be Lefty Riofski. highly regarded center who suffered a broken hand in the West Virginia game, but in Al Matuza the Hill toppers nave a creditable replace ment Tackle Joe Frank, consistent ly outstanding this season, is bruised badly and limping from a pulled muscle. but is expected to start Georgetown was to taper off today with a light signal drill, but Coach Frank. Dobson planned a more extended but easy practice at Maryland. The Maryland mentor worked his charges under lights last night at College Park erecting defenses for the Hoyas’ diversified at tack. Maryland has captured three of the four games in the modern series, all of which have been close. The Terps took the first two. 60 and 1876, lost in 1886, 7–6, and won last year, 1872. Georgetown alumni will stage a pre-game smoker tonight at the Mayflower Hotel.
