Stage appears Set for Big Upset With G. “. Conqueriing Powerful Ole Miss Friday Kentucky Teachers, Plattsville (Wis.) Teachers and. Of all schools, deemphasized Johns Hopkins (the Jays have played one gameD. Its inviolate goal, in spite of a modest schedule to date, is evidence Of strength in g. WIS line. Some excellent football was played by Fur man, Butler. Colorado and Davis and Elkins against the Colonials, but when its goal was menaced the Buff and Blue always displayed more than enough strength to stop the enemy. Pass Defense Okay. G. w. adherents who followed its preseason scrimmages with Maryland feared for the Colonials’ pass defense. but in their first three games only three passes were completed against them and in their last contest. with Davis and Elkins, they handled the opposing aerial attack without diff Guilty. The Colonials’ attack has been sound and versatile, with no evidence Of shakiness when pay dirt neared. Five Of the 10 passes they’ve thrown have gone for touchdowns. They’ve presented a climax runner Of undisputed class in Vic Sampson and one to conjure with in John Tonkavitch. sophomore fullback, vino ran 50 yards to score against Colo RADIO and who. in other games, was an able line cracker. They have a clever passer in little Billy Richardson and capable kicker and passer in Sampson. Bill Reinhart, rapidly growing in esteem as a coach. has used his sophomoric, but promising reserves as freely as practicable and they come to the big test with more than ordinary game experience for rockies. Nowaskey q Double Threat. In Bob Nowaskey the Colonials present probably the outstanding end of this section, efficient on defense and a double scoring threat, for Nowaskey, who played fullback last year, special ICES in the end-around play and is a skillful pass catcher. G.. w. morale probably never was higher. Instead of being awed by the 47–14 score rolled up Saturday by Ole Miss against a supposedly strong Centenary team, the Colonials took the attitude of “the bigger they come, “ etc. The Rebels whipped the Colonials last year. 27–6. Beyond question, the Buff and Blue is greatly improved over 1887. Mississippi lost several of its best linemen, notably All-America Bruiser Kinard, but are back with a balanced, powerful backfield. BY land and air the Rebels blasted Centeneary with, according to report, their strongest attack of the season. Ole Miss may have reached its peak in this game and thus be due for a letdown. This possibility, plus long trip and all those G. w. assets we’ve mentioned, combine to set the stage for q so-called startling upset” Anyway, we’re taking a flyer on the Colonials.
