YALE PREP ARES l FOR DARTMOUTH Humphrey Showed We’ll in Michigan l5-l3 Win; Amherst Able The menacing shadow of a toma- today as the Yale University var- slty focball team. groggy from a heart-breaking defeat by Michigan, began urgent preparations for the invasion Saturday by the Dartmouth Indians. It was from the frying pan into the fire for the Eli gridders. Dart mouth still was undefeated this year, and its speedy backfield of Hutchinson, Macleod and Howe struck terror in the Yale barri- cades. In spite of the approaching scalping, Eli rooters today sung the praises of Gil Humphrey, who ale most single handed Saturday, kept the Yale team in the lead over Michigan until the closing minutes. Then bad break resulted in a wolverine touchdown and eventual victory, l5-l3. A couple of Yale men, rushing a punter, grew bit too patriotic and fell on him heavily deep in Michigan territory. As resule, Michi- gan retained the ball and went sev- eral score yards to touchdown. At the half, it was Yale by i3–2, with Humphrey heaving passes with accuracy, and intercepting enemy aerials in disconcerting fashion to the visitors. With the resumption of third period hostilities, however, the Michigan team awoke, and scored in that period and again in the final quarter. The earlier safety provided the margin of victory. Coming Champs? Elsewhere in the state: Amherst became the favorite to capture the little three” champion ship by defeating Wesleyan univer- sity, l3–0. Williams, third member of the little three,” was reported in e weak condition this year and prob ably will be unable to stop the Am- herst attack. In Saturdays game. the Amherst eleven showed to good advantage in the second period when all the scoring was accom- plished. Wesleyan came back strong in the second half. but not enough to notch up points on the score-board. Trinity College showed little mercy to the U. s. Coast Guard Academy eleven, winning 26–0. The Hartford team scored in each period against the Cadets, who were said to be in a wearied condition after their first game of the season last week over Norwich University. The Hartwlck College eleven won a close game from New Britain Teachers College, 7–6, at Oneonta. N. F. W Lowell Textile trounced Arnold College, 33–0.
