    D. c, ADJACENT ELEVENS SHINE CONTINUED from 1st. Sport PaSe) will be difficult to convince on any score except that G. w. just about can defeat three or four OF foregoing named half dozen East ern gridiron leaders. Fordham s, Boston College 0; Western Maryland 40, Boston Col lege 0. Doesn’t sound possible, yet there It is. I saw Fordham win over B. C. I saw B. C. very nearly win over Fordham. At the concluSion of the B. C.-FNrdham game, I was convinced that no team could score 40 points on B. C. But Western Maryland did. thus bearing out this observers contention of the past IS years: Richard Dick” Harlow. Green Terror mentor. is tops” in this matter of coaching football teams. Also Command Notice Western Maryland, too. must deserve rating right up at the top with leaders of Eastern football. If not, why not? Georgetown is united and undefeated. The Hoyas should and undoubtedly will improve this week. The Hoyas can and should defeat N. Y. U. 1t is likely that Georgetown will be forced to offer an iron-man eleven this season, for capable reserve material is mighty scarce at the Hilltop. Georgetown teams of the past have played many hard schedule with a squad or IS or 16 capable players. Why not this one? Holy Cross II, Catholic University s; Holy Cross 26. Harvard 6. Those figures tell tale. too. c. U. is greatly moderated. If C. U. isn’t as good as Harvard, and teams in Harvard’s category, then Alfred Smith must be a Mohammedan. Means a Great Deal Maryland defeated V. P I. On the face of it, that doesn’t sound Such-a-much. Yet that Old Line win of Saturday means great deal to the observer who sees underneath. Maryland has a green team that partially found itself in the Navy game, that i’m proved in the V. P. l. game. Watch Maryland in November! Apropos Maryland: Navy is, Maryland 10; Navy 10, Column bia Z. Well, what does that make Maryland? Some one once said that we mustn’t go by comparative scores, but how can one escape mention ing such matters?

PSYCHOLOGY TO Be IMPORTANT FACTOR INHAWKEYE BATTLE Fortune May Be Brewing Some Ironic Fate for Maraudinq Minnesota Eleven DARTMOUTH Is WATCHED Harvard’s Showing Against Holy Cross Considered In dicative Of Strength New York, Oct. 25.-(R)-The Inc vitable reaction that follows crucial game victories may take heavy toll among championship football aspirants this week. In the face OF Minnesota’s stirring triumph over Pittsburgh last week, there will be few II any foolhardy enough to bet against the Gophers in their battle with Iowa on Saturday, even though old man psychology may unlimber his heavy guns on the Hawkeyes’ side. There is no reason to doubt that Minnesota was primed for Pitt, one Of the Gophers’ main detectives in the drive toward q possible undefeated season. It may take weeks before they hit such another relentless drive as marked the fourth-quarter squirt with which they tanned the Panthers. And, in the meantime, some one conceivably might deal death blow to Bernie Bierman,s aspirations for q Big Ten, as well Is q national cham pionship. Iowa Disappointing PICKLE Fortune might be brewing some such ironic fate for the Gophers, perhaps with Iowa as the party Of the second part. The Hawkeyes, as highly touted at the start Of the Big Ten season as any outfit but Mime sofa, have been disappointments. After the 20–7 victory over North western apparently had proved Dick Crayne and Oze Simmons Is all but unstoppable backs, the Hawkeyes went into reverse, losing q 1913 decision to Nebraska and then ran into an amazing 3l-6 setback by Iowa State. Iowa State, incidentally, apparently has its best chance since 1919 Of beat ing Nebraska this week. Oklahoma s sooners had been expected, in the advance calculations, to be the major threat to Nebraska’s continued reign as Big Six champion. The cornhuskers hurled Oklahoma last week, 60, only to find Iowa State rising up ! new. and perhaps an even greater menace. Dartmouth Comeback Watched In the east, this is the week the boys will discover how far Earl Blaik has been able to bring Dartmouth back along the comeback trail. The big green has done everything asked Of It so far IN knocking over Norwich, Vermont. Maine and Virginia. xcoring 125 points against none for the combined opposition, but Saturdays game with Harvard Is awaited to fur nish q definite line on Dartmouth’s strength. Harvard. despite the 26–6 score, put up surprisingly fine showing against Holy Cross, rated one OF the east S best last week. The Crimson was in the game right up to the final quarter when Jim Hobin’s passing had Eddie Casey’s men all In 4 flutter.
