MICHIGAN GAINS SPOTLIGHT. On GRID. NEW YORK, Oct. 16.-Aloof and superior as the builder Of the Panama Canal at a ditch diggers’ convention, Michigan’s Dream of Dreams” team lowered today above the nations football elevens. Southern California was all right pushing back Slip Madigan’s gallant st. Mary’s. IA to 7, Duke got on the map in red ink with a 10-to-2 crushing of Tennessee and Pittsburgh was just as strong as advertised in whipping Navy, “a to 6. but when Harry Kipke’s ma, chine stuck it’s heel into Cornell, 40 to 0, the Wolverines bounded far out in front in the 1888 grid iron chase. Real Highlight Michigan’s triumph by such a score must be considered one of the highlights of the season, regardless of how many shocking events occur before the Turkeys are formally introduced to the Cranberry family. This is so, because Cornell is coached by Gil Dobie, and when a Dobie-drille team cracks up as this one did Saturday, the enemy must have everything, including Dobie’s per- Sonal mail. The big Red machine was help less against the Maize and Blues attack. even though Cornell used a seven-man line. Off-tackle cut backs and a fair aerial game, which is Michigan’s weakest Of fensive weapon, solved the wall problem offered by Dobie, and it wasn’t long until Johnny Regeczi and Herman Everhardus started dashing around like bellboys, with runs of from So to 85 yards. Cor, nells secondary defense went com pletely haywire and it’s long-her aided running attack totaled three first downs, one by penalty. Face Ohio Michigan plays Ohio State this weekend; therein Chicago. Illinois Minnesota and Northwestern and today looks cinch for the Big Ten title and a right to battle ir a post-seaSon game, if it cares, fol national honors.
