RAIDERS UNBEATEN AND united; FOES UNABLE TO SCORE Football Coach’s Dream Be. comes a Reality For Canny Little Andy Kerr PRAISES HIS 1882 MACHINE Hamilton, N. Y, Outfit Rolled Up Total Of 264 Points in Nine Wins New York, Nov. 25.-(P)-The foot ball coach’s dream-a team neither beaten, tied on scored on-had come true Friday for the keeneyed, smiling little Scotchman, Andy Kerr of Col gate, whose fame as a teacher of the warner System” has spread from coast to coast since the day when he tossed his meagre 120 pounds into the gridiron play for dear old Dickinson |college. Rolling back from the battle-ground where his Colgate team completed its all-conquering march Thursday with a decisive 21–0 victory Of a hitherto unbeaten Brown eleven, Andy Kerr paid tribute to his boys as “the most responsive to his coaching, the best team unit” he has ever had in more than a quarter century of athletic teaching. Kerr has coached other unbeaten teams, his 1921 Pittsburgh freshmen and the 1926 Washington e. jefferson varsity among them, but he belonged Friday with the select few of all-time who have turned out a defensive out fit yielding, not a single point. The gridiron records are somewhat loose on this feature of achievement but they apparently show the last major team in the country to finish With an absolutely clean slate was Texas A. & M. in 1919 and that no big eastern outfit has turned the trick since Pittsburgh and Navy in 1910 each blanked all opposition. Back in the good old days Yale held all foes score less in three seasons, 1888, 1891 and 1892. Michigan’s famous 1902 array enjoyed a similar distinction. Colgate, reaching its offensive peak against Brown in tussel for eastern championship honors, finished its nine-game schedule with total OF 264 points. The closest the Maroon goal line came to being crossed was on the last play of the first half against Brown. It was fourth down, with a scant two yards to 60 and Bob Chase, star Bruin back, failed by few inches to score on a line buck. Otherwise Inc team got within Colgate’S 1O-yard line all season. Tn e was no doubt about the out come, after Colgate turned back this threat. Clicking in every department of play, the Red Raiders routed the Bruins in the last half with a perfornance that heightened the teams chances of being selected to represent the East in the tournament OF Roses game at Pasadena New Years.
