ON THE ooAnEGn GEID1noN. Harvard Defeats Trinity 34 to Civilians Defeats Wesleyan. Amherst, Mass, Oct. 7.-Amherst showed the lack of practice and uncer- tainty in the organization of its foot ball team this afternoon by playing. nothing to nothing game with BoWdoin, much lighter team. At no time did either team come within ten yards of scoring. Plumbing, lack of speed and interference characterized Amherst’s work, and brilliant individual work by Callahan, Boyden and Captain Taylor alone kept Bowdoin from scoring. Ty Ter tackled fiercely in every part of the line and had even to do kicking for Amherst. The BoWdoins considering their weight played a fine game, their interference being almost invincible. The work of Kendall, Stearns and Clark was most noticeable for Bow doin. Williamstown, Oct 7.-Williams de- feated Wesleyan to on Weston Field this afternoon. The game was hard played throughout, several men being injured. The team work of both elev- ems was poor, but there were many brilliant individual plays. The Wes- leyan line was unable to resist the rushes of the Williams backs, but Will Hams fumbled at critical points. Will Hams had the ball within a foot of the goal line at the end of each half, but both times was unable to push it over Williams scored after play began in the second long runs around the sides and vigorous assaults on the tackles. Boston, Oct 6-Harvard defeated Trinity to-day on Soldiers Field to-day, the score of 34 to o. The game was very one-sided, although the home elev- en was by no means strong at all points. Trinity was especially weak behind the line, where there was fre- quent fumbling and mixing up of sig nals. Not once did Trinity get the ball in Harvard’s territory The home eleven succeeded in blocking only two kicks directly and these netted touch- downs. The ground gaining was due to good line bucking and excellent punt ing by Brown, who kicked three very difficult goals. Some new men we’re tried at Harvards ends and they made good showing. The chief faults in Harvard’s play were poor interference slowness in blocking the kicks of slow full back and failure to fall on the ball which was repeatedly fumbled by both sides There were no brilliant runs. Only once did Trinity recover the ball on Harvard’s failure to make the required gains But her men played a plucky up- hill game.
