HARVARD IS VICTOR IN DOUBLE-HEADERi 0verWheImS Vermont, $50, Then Beats Coast Guard Academy, SO to 0. BY the Associated Press. ~ AMBRIDGE, Mass, october A. Harvard encountered little opposition here today when it opened its foot ball season by piling up 10 touchdowns in the double header against Vermont and the United States Coast Guard Academy. Vermont was overwhelmed, IS to 0, in four 10-minute periods and the service men bowed, 80 to 0, after only 80 min utes of play. The double bill, the second in Har- Yards history gave Head Coach Arnold Horween nothing more than an opportunity to watch every member of his squad under fire. Use Few Laterals. Harvard spent 70 of the ~ minutes of action deep in enemy territory and used straight line plunging, mixed with a few laterals throughout both contests. The Coast Guardsmen, who were never able to advance the ball as far as midfeld. made no kind Of an offensive gesture. Vermont threatened late in the third period, when Durfey, an end, recovered 0SAACA NoSAACWSAS 4AAtAOAC vi 4AoA van . 20-yard line. Winant, Vermont quarterback, then completed a 19-yard pass to Bedell and the Green Mountain Boys had a first down on the Crimson’s l. yard mark. Punt Out Of Danger. Winant and Collins futilely tried to break through Capt Ben Ticknor and his sturdy guards and the ball went TO Harvard on downs The Crimson punted out of danger.
