7 ME:R HOPE Of TIGERS HE seton Niger is to law the lIeleg of Yale in the Bowl at New Haven on the morrow, Eddie Vfittnner will have to do the claWillg He’s about all the football team that Bill Roper viii be able to throw into the fray. :. At least that was the impression of1lookers at the Palmer Stadium took away with them on Saturday after the Lehigh triumph. Princeton adherents took some comfort from the size of the score against the supposedly strong Lehigh eleven--20 to 0--hut had to admit after reviewing their afternoons entertainment that Wfttmer did it all. - Nor could they find much reason for elati0n in three = f0uchdOwns when they knew \e that their eleven should have scored at least six or possibly i more. Seven times the fighting war riors from Bethlehem took the ball away from the Tiger on downs inside the 10-yard line. A great show of spirit and fight but also a very evident lack of a scoring punch in the Tiger lineup. While Wittner was in the game I the attack moved, Of course, because he took the ball on nearly every play. Carey, the new quarterback, whipped around the ends for couple of fancy gains, but every time the Tiger needed a couple of yards to retain posses sion of the ball Wittmer was asked to get them. And he came through consistently-though the Lehighans did stop even him during the first period. The pounding they took in those three Princeton marches down the field finally took it’s toll, however, and in the second period they couldn’t cope with his speed. Wittmer. of course, has what it takes. He’s great back. Can do everything that the great stars do with a football and do it almost as well. He can hammer the line or skirt the ends. pass and kick Polished. and finished real threat to Yale’s peace and happiness next week. But he’s the only one. After he left the ball game the Tigers showed nothing. They did pick up huge gObS of ground around midfield; in fact, right down to the 10 yard line. But there they stopped. Three times in the third quarter, after Moldauer’s end runs had carried the ball into the scoring zone, Lehigh braced and stopped them, the last time only inches from the goal line. q The Tigers had eight chances to carry the ball Is yards at that time-it was first down on the l6-yard line and first down on the six-but the final punch was lacking. Wittmer’s exceptional success In the second period can be credited in a measure to the dppearance of Levine. the Brooklyn boy, IN the backfield for the first time He did the heavy WoFk atIT
