FAST H0YAS SCORE EASY 27–7 VICTORY SnaooW boxing with a Fordllam man carrying the ball. When he was hit ne was down and stayed down. Speedy little Eddie Leary, who, by the way. was somewhat of a star him self, took a hand at the tack1ing, and ms work OF backing up the line was superb. The Blue and Gray received the kick. off, and after picking up a 15-vard penalty for holding had to punt, Mooney, from his own 15-yard line. cot away his only short punt of the game 1t went only to the 42-yard line But Fordhar11 began its fumblina spree and Bozek was on the job to smother the ball on his own 35-yard line, The Georgetown attack hadn’t got started yet, so Mooney stepped back on third down to send high punt to Dallaire, who funnbled on his 6-yard line. Tcniaini, down the field like a flash. | dropped on the ball. and few Sec onds later Doplin shot over for a touchdown on criss-cross play Mooney missed the goal. Georgetown Eases. Here was the Blue and Gray with touchdown with game less than two minutes old, so 1t proceeded to settle down and enjoy itself. With three minutes of the first quarter remaining Provincial grabbed pass from Hudak for a 20 yard gain to place the pigskin on Ford hams 15-yard line. The remaining dis tance from the goal was quickly wiped out by beautifully executed pass from Hudak to Dwyer. Mooney kicked for the extra point. Georgetown let down perceptibly here, perhaps little too much, for Bozek carelessly ftlmbled on his own 12-yard line. WiSniewSki recovered for the Maroons, but the locals couldn’t gain an inch and the visitors took the ball on their own 10-yard line. Mooney, standing on his goal line, punted Al yards. Fordham’s plays began clicking for change, and within few minutes Georgetown was battling on the 18-yard line to protect it’s goal The Blue and Gray stopped two plays, but third, lateral pass. Bartos to Shableski, brought a touchdown. Tracey kicked goal. One of the sparkling plays of the game came shortly after the kickoff, | when Duplirl hurried far back to his diagnolly across the field of Bozek, who was stopped on Fordham’s 20-yard line. The Blue and Gray was going to get that touchdown back so 1t appeared, but the ever-eager Hudak fumbled and Bartos recovered for Fordharn. Eeary ! replaced Hudak shortly afterward and got warmed up in the few remaining minutes Of the first half for his big | splurge In the next half. Fordham Makes Bid. Fordham made one of its best at ternpts to overtake Georgetown shortly after the third quarter opened. The Maroons, spurred to action by the GUS | tomary between-halves lecture, smashed deep into Georgetown territory Mooney | had to kick from behind his own goal line He sent the ball to the 33-yard ! line, from where the Maroons started desperate drive. j. Walsh grabbed a | 15-yard pass from Cullen and squirmed | to the eight-yard line. But both teams were off-side and the play was recalled. Fordhan1 kept | plugging along. though and mixed two / passes with few nice gains through | the line to get down to Georgetowns . 10-yard line before losing the ball on | downs. The recovery Of fIlmbIeg has mot only saved Georgetown from de- feat this year, but also has been the deciding factor that swung victory in the favor Of the blue and Gray. 41xemplifying this were the games with New York University and Fordham. Georgetown gave the its only defeat Of the season by simply taking advantage OF the Violets’ mistakes ana playing a great defensive stand on no less than five occasions under the Blue and Gray rEoal posts. They effeclively stopped Ken Strong who ran Wild against Carnegie Tech. Once with the ball on the one.yard mark he HilItoppers twice held for downs. In the Fordham game the Hill tOppers converted several Maroon bobbles into touchdowns, two fumbles being directly responsible for two s the four tOuchdowns that Georgetown marked u- iii the 27–7 victory over their dearest football rivals. Georgetown remains In the running for the Eastern cOi- lege football title and realize the claim can be enhanced by downing the men Of Gus DOrais. Detroit has come down to the game without d blot against it’s 1923 football slate, but It Is safe to say the Titans have not encountered q team in the class with the Blue and Gray.
