  PENN STATE RALLY DEFEATS SYRACUSE by the Associated Press SYRACUSE. NJ Y. October ee.- Capt. Johnny. Roepke led the Penn State team In whirlwind final period attack to defeat Syracuse University, ? to 6. In Archbold Sta dium this afternoon. Twenty thousa nd spectators were thrilled by the Lion attack, which netted touchdown and placement kick in the final rs minutes of play to win after Syracuse was leading, 6@to 0. 1t was Penn States first foot ball victory over Syracuse. In the six years of rivalry between the univer. sites, Penn State never before had been able to score even a touchdown against the Orange warriors. Long punts by Baysinger brought Syracuse from it’s own territory to within 20 yards of the State goal in line had swept the Orangemen on n long march down the field as the game opened. Sammy Zebo scored ! for the Andreas coached team by going | 20 yards through the Penn State line. Br0phy failed to make the goal !, Capt. Johnny Roepke was rushed | to the aid Of his team near the end | OF the third period. and the Lions began passing and bucking Syracuse OFF its feet to bring the ball to within ! 10 yards OF the goal as the third quar-. ter ended Cy Lungren, Bezdek’s signal. barker, made sweeping nun of his right end to score a touchdown in the hrst few minutes of the final period Roepke failed on try for the extra point. Without Capt. Barbuti to back ur the line, Syracuse was unable to check the determined march of the victory-scenting Lions. Roepke le, his mates down to within 20 yards ol Syracuse’s zero stripe, and booted over placement kick which wor the game. Penn State completed ten forward passes to nine for Syracuse. but thu Orange gained considerably more ground on the long heayes y, Eaysipger. ..
