By the Associated Press. ~HICAGO, October 17.--Having once invaded the East this season with great success, the ~ Western Conference Is now preparing a warm reception for one of the big Eastern foot ball teams next Saturday, when Pennsylvania comes to meet Chicago. The Pennsylvanians are likely to find a different team from the one they ran through and over last year at Philadelphia, for Chicago is now one of the conference leaders, with victories over Indiana and Purdue, the latter the conqueror of Harvard two weeks ago. In its 76 victory over Purdue Sat urday Chicago showed one of the smartest foot ball teams Coach A. A. Stagg has turned out in his SO years on the midway. Notre Danes great scoring machine will give Indiana’s new-found stone wall” real test Saturday. The Hoo siers stopped Minnesota, including the all-American Fullback Herb Joesting, for 14–14 tie, but Joesting still favored the lame leg which has troubled him since the opening of the season. May Help Buckeyes. The jinx which hovers over the home team in dedication ceremonies may swoop down upon Michigan Sat urday when Ohio State goes to chris ten the new Wolverine foot ball field at Ann Arbor. Overconfidence after their first touchdown played havoc with Ohio State last Saturday, accord ing to Coach Hanley of Northwestern, the victors by a score Of 10 to 13. Michigan probably will be without their best kicker. Louis Gilbert, who is also one Of their best ball carriers.

The Pickering lights of the grid iron fates will be shining more or less brightly Saturday afternoon when all of the Big Ten Conference football elevens swing into the heat of battle against foes Of stern ability. The dope bucket, generally in capacitated by last week-ends up sets, was gazing aSkance at this weeks contests. There is no one game that can be picked out as the top-go. Two games Hoosier fans are evincing much interest in are the Notre Dame Indiana and Purdue Wisconsin tits. The Irish are to tangle with the Crimson at Bloomington while the Boilermakers will travel to Madison to hit it up with the Badgers. Irish Are Favored Indianas brilliant showing against Minnesota last Saturday has put few hicks in the forecasting and the general trend seems to be placing the Irish two touchdowns to the good. Close students of the great fall sport are looking for Jimmy Phelan’s Purdue outfit to take every thing” out on the Wisconsin club. 1t is a sure bet the Lafayette crew would not appreciate any repetition of the Chicago affair. Chicago fans are somewhat astir over two clashes right in the Windy City. On the Midway>wi be Lou Young’s powerful Pennsylvania eleven for little tangle with Stages Maroons, one Of the featured inter sectional games of the week. Wildcats Favored Illinois will be up at Evanston warning with the vicious Northwest ern bunch. Dope on the Chicago affair seems to be about even while the Wildcats are favorites to down the Illini. Minnesota will attempt to relieve some of it’s hard feelings toward the world in it’s contest with Iowa at Minneapolis. The Gophers have been doing their best all week to shut out the 14–14 memories which Indiana hung on the line for the world to see. Seeking to wipe last week-end’s 1912 tie with Iowa State off the map, the Illinois aggregation was said to be braced to knock Tiny” Lewis and his husky gang of pile drivers into the middle of Deem ber.” Up at Madison the Badgers may be trif1e surprised by some of Phelan’s “baby”s stars. Glenn Harmeson and Ralph (Tex) WEIGH, the two brightest luminaries,, may team together at the half back posts and furnish few thrills. Pat Pages Indiana club Is just about “Set” for Knute Rockne’s gal looping cavalry. The Crimson are determined to put a halt to the rampage of Christy Flanagan, john ny Neimic, Charley Riley and Bucky Dahman. The Ohio State–Michigan game is attracting attention. The 1925 VOL verines took a nerve-racking 17–16 decision from Buckeyes. The Co. lumbus team is cunning for vengeance.
