HOLY CROSS BEATS HARVARD ON GRID Light and Speedy Team Shakes OH Jiny and ReYelS in Victory Cambridge, Oct. ia light and speedy Holy Cross eleven made It’s fifth and perhaps last pilgrimage to the Harvard stadium last Saturday, managed for the first time TO elude the jiny which has heretofore thwartcd its efforts, and slipped over a 7 10 G win on the best GRIM son squad in recent years. Alumni and close followers OF Worcester’s crack purple outfit see in the victory the last appearance OF Holy Cross on a Harvard schedule. II has been freely predicted both in Boston and Worcester for the past two or three years that Harvard was about ready 10 drop Holy Cross, chiefly because the purpie never appeared anxious to &C. cupy the position OF early season try-outs, but seemed on the contrary rather too willing to make Harvard a mid-scason objective. Previous TO Saturdays game 1t was whispered about that next years Harvard schedule would lind Dartmouth occupying its present position with an easy game before and after, this Of course necessitating the removal Of the Holy Cross threat from the list. In other words, Harvard schedule makers have decided to give Dartmouth preference over the purple. The talk, however, Is not occasioning any adverse criticism on the part of Holy Cross followers as the purple has In the short span OF sew en- years grown from an annual pushover to a leading figure in east ern football circles. And then, Holy Cross has something bigger to look forward to, an annual classic WITH Notre Dame. And this Is not hgment of the inauguration. Last spring, when the president OF Holy Cross went to Boston TO get permission TO sink piers in the blackstone river at Worcester as a foundation for the puppies new apacity stadium ne said In answer to a question put dlrectly to him that Holy Cross and Notre Dame would play in 1925 ana years thereafter. Alumni Of both In stitutions are known to favor such a clash and with Notre Dame and Boston college games as a nucleus Holy Cross will have no trouble III arranging its annual schedule. As for the game Saturday, IN spite of the word upset used by so many Sunday papers in connecton with the result, Holy cross players and followers never for a moment considered the possibility OF q Harvard win. This was borne ont between halves. when Captain Crow Icy, the best player on the field Saturlay, sent the following crisp mes sage to the Holy Cross rooters; keep on fighting and Harvard can’t score” And they didn’t. Another pleasing aspect Of the game from u Holy Cross standpoint was the line play of the team, SO far this season suspected as being hut a collection of brilliant backs with lust seven men in the rushllnc Saturday the work Of the purple lTJ line was a revelation. Early II the game it looked as If the huS’ crimson forward wall would nave an easy time battering the purple’ into submission and here and there = first down was made. But as tn came progressed the Worcester line found itself and in the second hal smpared play after play by the sim pie process of swarming over “h der and through the Harvard ram parts. Both scores were spcctacu’a ricces of work, and for the hrs limo in five years OF playing lad luck smiled on tho purple and IN ; ono-point margin Of victory was III result. Harvard fought furious I + the bitter end, and when the ma whistle blew and the half-mad Hol Cross cohorts took possession or IN ! rridiron for their victory march IN . Holy Cross Beats Harvard Team, 7–6 Cambridge, Mass, Oct. 17-(AP)-- Harvard’s potent backfield found it. self facing Purple line just as pow erfud at Soldiers Field today and the Crimson eleven was defeated by Holy Cross by a one point margin, to g.. 1t was the first victory for Holy Cross over Harvard in the six sue cessive years the two teams have played. quarter and forward passes were responsible for both touchdowns. The toe of Cheek, Harvard’s quarterback, was not as effective, however, as that of Crowley, the Purple full back, and 1t was Crowleys straight and true kick between the goal posts that made Holy Cross victors.
