MERCER LOSES TO OGLETHORPE Maurer And Company De- feat Bears By 25–0 Score ATLANTA, Ga, Nov. 22.-Defeat- ing Mercer university p to here thls afternoon, the stormy Petrels of Ogle- thorpe university Overcame the handl- cap of day that was the fairest of the fair. The winners had the better of the Bears throughout and the conqueror of the powerful Florida team never had chance to take today’s game, contest that is expected to play an important par in the final rating of teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic ass0- citations. A field goal of more than forty yards, q remarkable feat by Campbell, put the PctrelS in the lead in the second period and q touchdown soon after increased the margin to ten points, kilgore plung- ing across the goal line after con- Sistent advance from Mercers 40-yard line, q flashing 20-yard run by Cap tian Maurer accounting for almost half of the distance acquired in the drive. Campbell’s toe came to the rescue again in the final period when Ogle- thorpe’s rush was stayed inside the ten yard line and, standing on the ten-yard line, he sent a dropkick through the posts to run the total of his teams points to 13. Sensational Close The closing moments of the game were sensational With the important game on it’s last legs, Oglethorpe scored two touchdowns in little more time than is required to chronicle their accom- pishment. Mercer had thrown all dis cretions to the winds, doubtless decid- ing that the size of the score was of little import when it is boaSted by the other side and was sent pass after pass in a desperate effort to get somewhere. Parrish intercepted one of these efforts before it could reach Bear and. clud- ing the field, stepped 8 yards for q touchdown. Two plays later Kilgore placed him self on front of toss from a N1er- cer back and ran to Mercer’s 33-yard line. A lateral pass with Campbell the ultimate objectice gained IS and buck added two Maurer then took another lateral pass and slipped across the goal line matter of 13 yards.
