GRANGE AND co. ARE EASY WINNERS Romp Away With s6 to Q Vic. tory Over Iowa Chicago. Nov. 3.-Illinois contin- ued to blow ahead Saturday towards the western conference football championship. “Red” Grange. the most spectacular backfield man the 1924 season has produced, and his running mates got the “breaks” of the game and easily romped over the strong Iowa eleven by a score of 36 to 0. After the slashing victory the con- sensus of Big Ton opinion was that the Illinois eleven was headed for m undlsputed claim to the title, despite schedule which pits them against Chicago here Saturday, Minnesota a week later, and Ohio State a fort night hence. After Saturdays con- test, Chicago and Ohio State re- msined on the undefeated lists of conference schools, but each had a tie game against its record. The days play resulted in North western registering conference game in the “won” column for the first time in two years. The Purple’s victory was over the Indiana eleven by score of r to :. Sterling work by Ralph Baker, the leading scorer of the conference, contributed greatly to Northwest ern’s victory. Michigan continued to show re- covery from the overwhelming de- feat administered by Illinois, and took Minnesota into camp by a 13 to 0 score. It meant retention of the historic little brown jug” the gauge Of battle for Wolverine-G Gopher teams for many years, for another year. Other Games The University of Chicago showed much promise in it’s 19 to defeat of Purdue. but not enough to give hopes of successful stand against the Illini this weekend. Perhaps the most disconcerting blow of the day was struck Ohio State by Wooster. The game had been looked upon as merely @ prac- tice romp, but the Wooster eleven played the Buckeyes to a 7–7 tie. Other games Saturday will be Northwestern against Michigan at Ann Arbor and Ohio State and In diana at Columbus. Iowa and Wis consin are taking two weeks prep aration for their clash November 15. In two other games that stood out in middlewest interest Saturday the powerful Notre Dame squad contin- ued it’s record of conquests in inter- sectional contests by defeating the Georgia Tech team, and Marquette of Milwaukee, lost it’s first game in three years, being defeated by Creighton, an old rival.
