NAVY PLAYS POORLY AND is GIVEN JOLT ANNAPOLIS, Nd, October rs. - With a better planned and executed open game and the edge in all departments of kicking. West Virginia Wesleyan sprang a surprise on the Naval Academy this afternoon, win ming by 10 to 7. Both scored touchdowns and the extra point in the second quarter, and BuIlman. Wesleyan’s captain, Tailed the winning points with a field goal from placement in the third. The Navy played a somewhat more varied game than heretofore this season, working several passes for good gains, but at other times showing great crudeness in their execution. Hamilton frequently was unable to get the ball off, and was tackled for losses. However. the Navy’s score was Sc cured by two we’ll executed passes, from Hamilton to Shapley, and then from Shapley to Hamilton, which, between them, covered nearly half the field. A pass, which. with the run, COW cred 46 yards, from Garrity to Die trich. and then a run of 32 yards by WeihL on a trick pass. carried the ball to Navy’s 10-yard line as the fist quarter ended. It was carried over for a touchdown by Garrity on the second play of the next quarter. The Navy’s score came close to the end Of the same period. The Navy’s lack of alertness put Wesleyan in position to make it’s final points. A 40-yard run, the best by a Navy player during the game, had put the ball on Wesleyan’s as yard line. Here Wesleyan held and took the ball. A quick kick by Cor coran lifted the ball over the heads of the Navy backs, and wellings, in trying to recover 1t, fumbled, and Weihl fell on 1t on Navy’s 15-yard line. Bullman lifted clean-cut goal from placement.
