Claremont Team Proves Surprise Saturdays Game LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6.-I’he plucky Pomona college football team, with Il surprising showing against the University of Southern California written into its history, is getting ready to face the Califprmia Bear at Berkeley Saturday. Two games in as many weeks against such strong aggregations as 7. S. c. and California comprise a tough assignment for any squad, but the Claremont team seems to thrive on heavy going. Occidental, defeated by Stanford last Saturday by a 20 to 6 score, played against 80 men sent in by Coach Warner during the game. The frequency of the substitutions may have had something to do with the score, but OXy stock in the South ern California conference has in creased measurably. The Tigers tackle Redlands this week in the first conference game. The showing of Pomona, coming ON the heels of Cal Tech s poor front against the Trojans, has mar rowed down the Southern situation to Coach Nixon s team and Occidentai, in the opinion, of most football dopesters. U. S. C. entertains Arizona at the Coliseum Saturday. The boys from Tucson have not played much this season, and last week had diff fitulty in besting their first-ycar men by two touchdowns. N
