TULANE COMES FROM BEHIND TO TIE PLAINSMEN, 6 TO $ Brown Carries Ball Over For Tulane In Final Quarter To Tie Score MONTGOMERY. Ala. Nov. 10.- Special Leased Wire. )-Tulane’s first touchdown against an Auburn foot ball team in their four sridiron en- agreements enabled the Greenies to tie the Auburn Plainsmen at Cram ton Bowl this afternoon, 6–6. It came as the opening play of the final pe- riod after Hoffman had recovered an Auburn tumble on Auburn’s 3O-yard line in the minute of the third quar- ter and after Tautenschlager and Hoffman had advanced the ball to Auburn’s 12-yard line on an end run and a successful forward pass. The play. an end-around- play, with Brother Brown carrying the ball, caught the Tiger ends off guard and the speedy turn back raced far across the field to place the oval behind Auburn’s goal, evening the score with the Plansmen, who had scored in the first half. Brother Brown failed on his att tempt to kick goal. Had his drop kick gone through, the Greenies a one-point margin over the rivals from the plains, whom they have never defeated and, until this after noon. never scored upon. Entering the game far from favorites, they weakened under the powerful thrusts Q u. backs. and only the inconsistency of luck and the inattention of Referee Stroud saved them from entering the second half trailing by two touch- downs. Looked Like Touchdown. From the press box it appeared that Howe had crossed the Tulane goal in the latter minutes of the sec ond period after he had caught a pass tossed by Petersen and dived towards the last marker with bunch of green jersies close upon him Reese had smashed the Tulane line for 2S yards and placed the oval on the 2-ysrd line. He failed at line play, and after Auburn had been penalized five yards for offside. Reese carried it back to the Tulane 3-yard line. Howe then caught Pe- tersen’s pass and apparently crossed the Tulane goal but after the field cleared the ball went to Tulane on downs. one end of it touching the last chalk. Auburn’s touchdown came early in the second quarter. The oval flew into the stands on the play on Tu- lanes 30-yard line. Williams made two wards and on the next play Ford smashed the Tulane line for 10 yards. Ford advanced it to the 15yard line on the next attempt and on his next way across the goal line. It was beautiful run by Ford. he fighting his way through would-be tacklers and crossing the line with two around his neck. Iiowe’s dropk1ck for goal after touchdown went wild. Tulane came back in the second half with more fight than they had | displayed at any previous stage of l the game and battled the Tigers at almost even odds for the remainder i of the game. The inability of the l PIainsmen backs to effectively exc cute their short forward pass for nations accounted for their lack of ability. two completed out of 14 tried for a total of IA yards Tulane at tempted six and executed two for total of l9 yards. Howe’s punts averaged 43 yards. which was better than the average for Flournoy and Brown. yet the latter kept the oval spinning towards Tiger terri tory numerous times with long, roll ing spirals. The offensive ability of the entire Tiger backfield brought the stands to their feet on several occasions. Ford and Williams were Auburn’s s most consistent and dependable ground gathers. while Howe and Pe tersen hit the Tulane line for large gains. In addition to his bunting, Howe proved himself a line plunger of ability by the manner in which he smashed the Tulane line.
