TAFT STARS FOR u. OF W. In the football contest at Cham paign. Illinois, where the University Of Wisconsin went down to defeat by a score of 10 to 0 on Saturday, the outstanding features of the game were the wonderful running of Grange of Illinois and the all around play ing of Taft for Wisconsin. At the start Of the game the latter made a long run for Wisconsin bringing the Illinois goal but the team lacked the punch to put it over. Shorty after, Grange, by a series of brilliant runs, made a touchdown for Illinois and a little later Britton scored a field goal. This all happened in the first quarter and thereafter the bal. was in Illinois territory most of the time but the Wisconsin offense with the exception of Taft lacked the pow er to make any considerable gains During the last three-quarters of the game Illinois failed to make first down more than once or twice and was forced to kick. Grange was tackled so hard by one of the Wis consin players that after the first half he was withdrawn from the game Second only to Grange was the work of Taft. This Wisconsin full back will no doubt be selected as the best full back in the west and if his brilliant work continues throughout the season he may be placed on tn. mythical All-American team. He was g triple threat man throughout to Illinois When Taft stood back it was always a question whether he would punt, run or pass. His kicks were all prettily placed and every time he took the ball to run he made large gains and he certainly was there to back up the line in tackling. Below, Captain for Wisconsin, also PLAYED remarkable game. A party Of Baraboo men who made the trip to Champaign by auto to witness the game Ill agreed that it was worth going eight hundred miles just to see the Illinois wonder, Grange, in action. BY the way, the writer, who was one of the party, would suggest that you obey the Illinois speed laws when autOing in that state, as the cops are surely there to “get you if you don’t watch ! out”
