NAVY IS VICTOR OVER COLGATE 90 Sustained Power Of Attack Gives The MiddieS Victory ANNAPOLIS, Md, Nov. 3.-Display ing more sustained power of attack and a defense that stood up like yeritable stone wall after the enemy had advanced well within the cruical zone, the Annapolis midshipmen beat down the strong Colgate football team on Farragut field today by score of g to 0. It was one of the bitterest, as well as one of the most cleanly contested games ever wit messed in the government reserya- tion. The Maroons started off like a whirlwind and easily had the advant- age in ground gaining during the first period, registering six first downs to one for the Middies. But Navy began to find Itself in the second session and forced the fight ing most of the time. Twice the sailors marched to Col gates 10-yard mark and in each in stance the visitors braced. Barchet, who had been substituted for Bull finger, failed in his first try for placement goal. but made good on the second chance, which was an easy one from the 15-yard mark. The third period was fought out an even terms, although each got well within the others zone on two occasions. Neither, however, could muster sufficient punch to score. After seven minutes of the fourth period had expired. Quarterback Shapley of the Navy broke through Colgate’s forward defense and zigg gagged his way through broken field for a dash of 65 yards to touchdown. Barchet failed to make good in the try for points via place ment goal. No less spectacular was the aerial offensive which Colgate unleased i’m mediately after this in a last des perate effort to score. Colgate ad- vanced to within few feet of Navy’s goal All three of Colgate’s backs took a mighty lunge at the NaYy’s line, but none could cover the short distance. As a last resort, Tryon tried a forward pass and the ball went over to Navy. A few seconds later final time was sounded.
