CENTRE IS BEATEN VERY DECISIVELY Pennsylvania Piles Up Score of “A to 0 on Praying CoIonelS” PHILADELPHIA, Pa, Oct. 27-The famous Centre college football team. in it’s fourth invasion of the east, met University of Pennsylvania today, 24 to 0. More than 10000 persons saw the Quakers score three touchdowns with the extra points and a field goal against the Praying Colonels.” Except in the opening and closing periods, when the Kentuckians showed some ground-g gaining quail ties, the Centre team was outplayed in all points of the game. The only time that Pennsylvania was in dan ger of being scored upon was in the closing moments, when Lemon, right end for Centre, in desperate effort to avoid shutout, tried a field goal from Pennsylvania’s 32-yard line. The referee decided it was no goal, the ball apparently going wide of the posts. There was some discussion with the officials by the Centre players about it. This came immediately after what appeared to be fight among several players. There was a scrimmage and then a mix-up. Who were the prin cipals could not be seen from the stands, except that when Dewhirst. a substitute, extrieated himself from the scrimmage he left the field and Pennsylvania was penalized half the distance to the goal line, about 15 yards. There was booing among the spectators, which seemed to be aimed at both sides. Pennsylvania. the heavier team pounded the Centre line hard and consistently broke through the Colo nels wherever attacked There were no very long runs, but some good passing was indulged in which netted substantial gains. On the defense, Pennsylvania held like a stone wall. Repeatedly the dashing Kentuckians struck the line, only to be hurled back for serious loss. Captain Hamer, Thomas, McGraw and Dern played strong game. The task of carrying the ball was given to them and they seldom failed. Ha- mer’s bunting also was good.
