KENTUCKY ELEVEN PLAYS MARYVILLE TEAM SATURDAY Wildcats Put Up Game Scrap To Tie Washington And Lee Saturday LEXINGTON, Ky, Oct. 16.-(Spe- cial. .)-Now that the Washington and Lee football game is out of the way, the Wildcats of the University of Kentucky settled down to three weeks of steady grind before the Center contest. Next Saturday the Cats meet the Maryville eleven, the team which tied the University of Tennessee al the beginning of the year. and which has been playing ex- cellent ball all of this season. Going into Saturdays game with all but four of the players having some kind of an injury, and with one of the guards made over in three days from a substitute fullback in order to fill places in the line caused by serious hurts to all of the first string line men in the Cincinnati game October 6, the Cats were out played from the start of the game, but came through in the final min utes of play in some of the most spectacular play ever seen on Stoll field to score a touchdown. With forty yards to go the Wildcats started down the field and with series of passes and piece of ex- cellent broken field running down the sidelines on the part of Kirwan, who was acting as quarterback, the regular being cut with injuries, put ting the ball on the one-yard line from where Sanders, fullback par excellence. plunged over for the touchdown. It was on sheer grit and fighting spirit that the Cats were able to tie the score after the Washington and Le eleven had scored in the first few minutes of play on the best exc cuted passing attack seen here in some time. During the afternoons hostilities the Generals gained con sistently for long distance with their passes and completed seven out Of twelve attempts. Another week of rest and all of the Cats are expected to be in the best of condition and ready for the strenuous November schedule. Mont gomery, who has been on the side lines for the last week with an in- iured leg, Is out for practice and limbering up the injured member. Montgomery it was who broke through the Cincinnati line time after time and smeared the runner from five to ten yards behind the line of scrimmage.
