The giant was played at Eb- bets field. BroCk klyn, before a crowd of more than 30.000 persons, includ- inis 1,400 cadets who, seated in their own section of the field, added that touch of color always present at a military contest. Army never threatened seriously to score, although there were some brilliant runs by Smythe, the snappy quarterback. The cadets passing was weak. and where Notre Dame managed to cross the goal line in the second period on a throw from Stuhldreher to Layden, Army missed several opportunities for long gains by muffing their aerial plays. Notre Dame’s second touchdown came in the fourth period near the end of play. Garbisch, the Army center, had Intercepted and caught a long pass from Metre Danes side of the line Then Smythe shot the ball through the air. but Crowley, Notre Dames halfback, intercepted the ball and ran 30 yards to 35-yard line. Crowley then took the ball around right end for another 30 yards and Miller plunged through the line for the remaining five yards and touch down. Crowley failed to catch the goal. While Notre Dame had been ex- pected to play a somewhat open game, most of their gains were made on straight line plunges and end runs It was though this method of attack may have baffled the Army eleven. as preparations had been madeffor the more open style of play.
