BARTLETT LEADS TIDE TO WIN OVER GEORGIA N GRUELLMG BATTLE Crimson Tide of Alabama TrounceS Georgia Bulldogs When Bartlett Gets Aloose, and Later Kicks Field Goal a Montgt mery, November 25.-eSpe- cial.)-Another upset in the already muchly upset football world occurred ‘. at Cramton bowl at Montgomery this afternoon when the not so thin Red Line of Alabama outfCught and out gamed tine Georgia Bulldogs. The ri- {. nal score was 10–6 in favor of Scotts fighting stalwarts. Entering the game a decided fa- vorite, Georgia at no time had a – chance against the determined rushes and air tight defense Of the Alabama boys. Early in the first quarter Ala bama worked the ball on straight football down to Georgia’s four-yard line. McCartee made an unfortu- nate tumble and Big John” Fletcher scooped up the ball and ran behind splendid interference furnished by Mulyihll and Randall for 96 yards and a marker. In the subsequent try for goal, Mulvihills kick was low. Georgia Line Holds For the rest of the quarter it looked as if this six point lead would be enough to win with, and Georgia took no chances. At the beginning of the second quarter. after Georgia had made several unsuccessful attempts to pierce the ‘Bama line. Alabama secured the ball on their own 36-yard line and in seven plays carried the [ ball to Georgia’s 3S-yard line Here Georgia held and Ala bama punted, Georgia receiving the ball it’s own eight-yard line without being able te, return it. After two attempts at the line. and then trying forward pass from under its’ own goal posts, Georgia kicked, and McCartee of Ala bama called for a fair catch on his own 35-yard line. Bartlett Gets Loose From this point, Bartlett made a magnificent end run, which carried the ball to Georgia’s 17-yard line. Here forward pass was intercepted by Randall, the fleet Georgia half back, but he was dropped in his tracks. After making first down Georgia was forced to punt and Me Cartee again received the ball. this time on Georgia’s 45-yard line From this point Alabama made a straight march down the field, one first down after the other until Bartlett put z the ball over the last chalk mark by inches. Georgia made enc of its fa- nous goal line stands, but was un- able to stem the onrush of the de- termined Tuscaloosans. who were out to avenge the defeats of the past five seasons. Second Half After the teams returned to the field for the second half, Alabama kicked off, and, Georgia unable to gain. punted, but utrAlabama was hold ing and the ball was recalled and Georgia given a first down on it’s a-d lttaa n..t tt,1 @Io, Georgia fumbled and Alabama re- covered After trying two rushes, Bartlett threw a long forward pass, Mulvihill of Georgia intercepted it, but before he could get started a red jersied husky hit him hard. causing him to tumble and Alabama recover ed the ball on Georgia’s 20-yard line. g After three unsuccessful attempts to gain, Bartlett kicked an easy field goal from placement, bringing the score up to 10 to s. Stars of Game For Alabama, Bartlett was the bright particular star. It was Bart lett on end runs, Bartlett on off tackle bucks, Bartlett’s trusty toe when punts were necessary and finally Bartlett, when the final three points were rung up. Verify. verify, it was Bartlett’s afternoon. Y O perhaps one of the hardest plunging backs ever seen in the south, shone the. brightest. Little Dan Post, suh~ -stituting for Randall made several nice runs and was also used as a 2, decoy in throwing forward passes, several of which would have been Y for very long gains had the receivers held on to them. ‘ Best Team Won “a. k Both teams were badly crippled and no alibi can be offered by either on that score. It was clean ly fought battle and to the 11,000 fans present. every one left the bowl with the impression that the best team had truly won. Alabamas defense appeared the strongest in the fourth period when Georgia threatened 10 snatch the game away from the loss column by the aerial attack, but ‘Bama line smeared the plays. The game this afternoon closed the football sea son for Montgomery and with the large attendance at the games here Publications point to sev- eral big games here next fall. I. ssThe Line-Up s
