SYRACUSE DOWNS CANADIAN ELEVEN American Football Triumphs Over Rugby, as McGill Loses, 30 to O. SYRACUSE, y. Y, Nov. 11-(By A. P)-American football proved its superiority over Canadian rugby here this afternoon, Syracuse uni versity winning its second annual international gridiron contest against McGill, 81 TO 0. Although it was understood that American rules would govern the game, the officials were very lenient and al lowed Montreal players great free dom in their use of the lateral for ward pass. Passes of that nature, some times progressing through the hands of seven different McGn players on a wide flank dash, furnished a unique spectacular element to the struggle and although most of them were technically Illegal, ali were allowed. Syracuse mixing all of the Of fensive threats known TO American football overwhelmed the Canadian team, scoring in the first four min utes OF play. Keen tacklins by McGnl players kept their defeat from becoming a rout. McGill at times showed flashes OF a strong defensive, once, in the shadow of its own goal posts. tax ing the ball from Syracuse on downs.
